Immunity Boosting foods and Spices
Honey: Honey is well-known for its immune boosting properties and Ayurveda has identified the importance of honey for its beneficial medicinal properties.Honey can be consumed with warm herbal teas. NB - please do not heat honey or use with very hot beverages, as his may be causedeterioration of essential enzymes and nutrients, and creates a digestive toxin called Ama.
Ghee (Clarified unsalted butter): due to its powerful gut-health-boosting and detoxification properties, ghee is the immune system’s best friend (around 80% of your immune system lives in our gut).
Ghee is rich in antioxidants, which boosts the immune system by increasing the body's ability to absorb essential nutrients. When your body effectively absorbs nutrients, your chances of falling ill reduces. Note: Cow’s milk ghee has the best medicinal properties.
Consume 1 teaspoon of ghee in the morning on an empty stomach or use in vegetables, curries or spread on rotis and chapatis to make them soft and healthy.
Haridra: Popularly known as Turmeric in English has potent immune boosting properties. It is an effective anti allergic herb too. And this combination of Turmeric makes it even more potent in avoiding frequent cold, cough, sore throat and respiratory ailments during seasonal changes. It also relieves hiccups.
One can use it by adding in warm milk, i.e. Golden milk or use in different vegetable recipes or curries.
Jeerak: A popular Indian spice, known as Cumin seed in English, is renowned for anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Vitamin C present in Cumin seeds helps to boost the properties of this immune strengthening herb.
Ginger: Filled with immune boosting properties. It is a proven anti-bacterial and supports the immune system. It also improves digestion and clears toxins accumulated due to indigestion.
One can use in the form of Immune Boosting Herbal tea or use in preparation of food items.
Lasuna: Lasuna (Garlic) is widely used in different recipes, and has numerous medicinal benefits. Garlic, with its antiseptic, anti-fungal, and nutritional properties, has been used as an immune booster for thousands of years by Ayurveda.
Taken in small amounts daily, garlic can play a significant role in boosting overall immunity, preventing common colds and flu.
Marich: Well-known spice, Black pepper, is often used in our kitchen and improves appetite, stimulates digestion, helps digest toxins, and maintains the respiratory system. This also helps to improve the absorption and thereby increases the bioavailability of other herbs and spices.
Use it in the form of herbal tea or use in preparation of curries and vegetables.
